Planning a healthcare MVP: scope, privacy and delivery
September 5, 2026 · 3 min read
A healthcare product needs a clear scope and a technical direction that reflects the information it will handle. The team, schedule and cost depend on the workflows, integrations and requirements of the project. This outline is a starting point for planning; it is not a fixed delivery calendar or a claim that a product meets a regulatory standard.
Understand the problem and choose the first workflows
Start with the people who will use the product, the problem to solve and the constraints. For example, a scheduling tool might begin with appointments and availability. Video, payments and reminders could be separate decisions rather than assumed features.
The result is a prioritized scope and a list of open questions. Agree on success criteria before development begins.
Define the experience, architecture and requirements
Map the information each workflow needs, which services handle it, who needs access and how that access changes. Review privacy, security and any applicable regulatory requirements with the people responsible for those decisions before committing to an implementation.
This stage should leave an understandable technical plan, dependencies and a project quote. Availability, delivery milestones and review responsibilities belong in the proposal for that specific project.
Build working versions and review them
Design and develop workflows that can be reviewed from end to end. Agree on a cadence of demonstrations and decisions with the client. Test integrations and access controls as the product takes shape, rather than leaving them for the final handoff.
A demonstration of a feature is different from confirmation that an operational or compliance requirement has been met. Record what has been tested and what still needs review.
Prepare launch and continuity
Plan testing, documentation, deployment and knowledge transfer according to the scope. Agree on maintenance, improvements and operational responsibilities before launch. The handoff should let the client understand what has been delivered and how to continue the work.
